I was driving my moms 2000 max today and I push down the pedal and the car took off really fast. faster then it normally does i know when we first got it. The car didnt seem as fast but now that this is a speed demon it seems faster than the 97 max i had.

It should be faster..it has 32 more Hp then your 97...up top you will feel a considerable difference if your 97 was an auto..if your 97 was a 5spd they should be pretty much the same unless you suc*ed at stick

I disagree. A 4th gen. 5-speed should feel faster than a 2000-01 auto. regerdless of the 32 hp/ maybe still up top it will be faster, but overall im quite sure the 4th gen will feel faster. I think the 2000-01 5-speed and the 4th 5-speed should feel around the same.

Yes.
Cars regularly get faster after they've been "broken in".

The engine can move more freely because the tolerances are so low to
begin with...If you pick up a Car&Driver (or similar) you'll often see
after the "long term tests" that the car is a little quicker.

BUT, I doubt the difference is enough to really notice.

way off...
32hp doesn't mean much on a heavier car with heavier rims.
a 5spd 4th gen will take a a 2000 auto whether you can drive or not.
as long as you don't stall...you will win.
auto to auto and 5spd to 5spd is almost dead even.
if anything, the edge goes to 4th gens.

The 5th gen's intake mani isn't as g*y as ours, and it kicks our **** in top end.....those, while stomping while moving, it will be faster, because our cars fall flat on our faces after 6200 rpm (or whatever it is)

The 5th Gens only have 12lb/ft more torque then us, and at a higher RPM. But the 5th Gens are also ~250lbs. heavier.

Take away ~250lbs., take away 12lb/ft torque, and make it all available at a lower RPM, and you got a QUICKER car, a 4th Gen. 0-60 will feel quicker and a bit torqueier in the 4th Gen. The 4th Gen SE is a tick or two faster to 60 then the 5th Gen SE.
