Replacing Wheel Stud
I need to replace one of the studs in my front wheel. Is this something I will be able to do without special tools or should I just let the dealership do it? Thanks.
Heh, I just had 2 of mine replaced this morning. It is something you can do yourself, but I think it is worth the money to have a shop do it. I bought the bolts for $2 and took the car to Merchants. They put the studs on for $40 in under an hour. Would've taken me atleast 3-4 hours.

i don't think you even need to remove the calipers or disk to change the stud. all you do is take the tire off, use a center punch(or some other metal bar) and a hammer and punch the broken stud in. it should come out the back of the disk. then stick the new stud in from the rear. make sure the splines line up. carefully put the tire on being careful not to push the stud back out. put the nut on the stud and tighten it down. this will pull the stud through and seat it. put the rest of the nuts on and drive it a bit and retorque the nuts. keep rechecking the torque of the nut until you're sure it's seated properly and properly torqued. Like i said, i'm pretty sure you don't need to remove the calliper or disk. i did this a while back, but if i'm not mistaken there's a gap or something you can work the studs out and in through. if i'm mistaken or you can't fit it through the gap you may need to remove calliper, but it shouldn't be too hard to do.
