What effects exhaust sounds?

I have recently been searching for a racer sound. I presently have a JWT Intake, WarpSpeed Y pipe, WarpSpeed B Pipe with resonator and a Magnaflow street series muffler (5x8) I am not looking for a louder exhaust sound, but more of a racing type sound.

In what ways can the sounds of the exhaust be changed or altered?

1. Will different types of mufflers change the overall sound? example racing series versus street series?
2. will adding an aftermarket cat converter change the overall exhaust sound in anyway?

Any clues and information will be helpful. For an example listen to the www.magnaflow.com start up page. Im looking for that type of sound... What am i missing ?

The muffler makes the biggest difference in how a car sounds. Thats why a lot of people just change the Y-pipe and B-pipe but not change the muffler. Because it does not give very good gains and makes the car much louder. Changing the cat to a high flow one should not make any difference in sound. That car on the magnaflow page sounds like a V8. And you will never be able to get a V6 to sound like that. You might be able to come close though...

check my homepage

are you sure that is a v8 coming from that page ...thanks for taking a listen ... i have several audio files on my webpage for comparison... also if you go into the sound files within magnaflow there are a few volkswagen VR6 GTI files, i would like to match that type of sound as well . I just cannot figure out how or what to do or buy to achieve it. I would like an educated guess ..so to speak .. but thats a great lead ..the muffler itself ... im certainly not trying to get the v8 sound, im looking for a racing exhaust sound ... but again thanks ...for the help ..if anything im a bit deep

I am not 100% sure if its a V8 but it sounds like it. I went to your homepage and listened to your car. I personally like the way it sounds now. Maybe some other people with different mufflers can tell you how theirs sound. BTW love the bridge video...

From what I can hear, the VR6 on the Magnaflow site has a more "muffled" sound than your exhaust. If you put the stock y-pipe on your car, it would sound like that. As for the growl at the intro to their site, its mostly the sound of the intake that you are hearing.

Your car sounds fine
