17 inch wheels

i have a 95 maxima se with stock 15inch wheels....i just took my car to midas to have them check out my suspension and exhaust....long story made short the guy told me not to get 17 inch wheels with low profile tires because the tire would rub against the springs?...is this true because i see all you guy shave 17's...and what size tire would be ok?...thanks

not true

17's wont rub. period. 20's will fit on a 4th gen maxima and not rub (maybe need to flare fender depending on width etc). most common tire size is 225/45/17 but it throws your speedo off by about 1.5% too slow (when it says ur doing 60, ur really going 59 or something).

235/45/17 make ur speedo almost perfect, but 235 isn't technically the proper fit on a 7" wide rim.
215/45/17 will fit also, as these are what I have, but they throw your speedo off by about 2.7% too slow.
