Great JOB!
Now the follow up question, I know this thread is already kinda old but anyway, does the same principle work for changing the color of the power window buttons on all four doors. I was thinking to make them red...

Yea, I will do it today. Spent an hour on research so far, now I will buy some tape and take care of the clock. Someone mentioned before I just need to change LEDs in buttons, so will disassemble and see how it looks. If I succeed with it, will definiely post the pics... and again, can't thank enough for the idea!!!

VQpower.com has lots of mods for 4th Gens. This is the Clock DImming Mod. This eliminates the clock from dimming when you turn your lights on...

hey AZNSAP...how did you do the climate control? I took the console apart but I can't get too close to the actual screen, is it possible to get it open so that teh screen is totally accessible?

Man, I went to Party City all excited and ****, got this dark red and blue cellophane. WRONG color, the red was too dark, GO FOR THE LIGHTER RED IF IN DOUBT, I got the other roll a few hours ago and i'm gonna try to do all 3 (Clock, AC and Bose HU) tomorrow morning after class. I have to mention that I've never opened up my console before, it was sorta fun, right now it looks like somebody attacked it with a baseball bat

i am also a perfectionist, today i spent about 2 hours attempting this mod, (was also doing auto cliamate control and bose HU) and i used a light real light red cellophane, and after the first layer it didnt do anything, so i added 3 more and it just changed it to a light green. should i try a darker red cellophane? thanks

i had the same idea .... u stole it !!!! hehe

i did mine but i used Acetate.....a blue film i got from an art suply store........

u should also cut the one of the wires going to the clock to disactivate the dimmer on the clock......its the red wire with a blue tracer.

u can replace the LED.....but who wants to spend more money than they should??

haha, this thread never dies, unfortunately for me this mod doesnt work in my area, i must have bought 5 different color red rolls of cellophane from different stores to try and get white, each of them produced either light green, or a red/pink colored clock

The way the light spectrum works is it too has a color scheme. It has three primary colors. To make white light you need all three red, blue, and green. The reason why magenta works is because it is made of red and blue, and since your clock is green you get the white light. So if you just buy red you will probably not get white. You will more than likely need a red color that has some blue in it to get a white light.

to make my clock blue, i put the magenta cellophane on there, and then 2 strips of blue after that...my clock is blue, and its clear, and i did the dimmer mod...im the biggest noob here and i got this done by myself...u just pry off the clock panel, disconnect the connectors....(they all have one button, thats wut took me a while to figure out, how to disconnect them) u wont have much room so press that button down on the connector and separate them...when thats done u can completely remove the clock panel and there r 2 screws holding the clock in place...remove those, take the clock off..pop the screen off the clock from the sides and slide some cellophane in there...(dont block the buttons wit the cellophane, then u cant adjust ure clock!) close it back up and ure all set, plug the clock in by itself before u put the panel back on to test how the clock came out....now put everything back!!

wow i posted in this thread over 2 years ago. oh well, for all the new members i'll put up a pic of what YOU can get your clock, acc, and bose head unit to look like:

i still have the same roll i used in my closet, hahaha after 2 years its still sitting here.

if anybody wants my shade (one layer of the cellophane i have will give you the color you see in the pic, it's a very white w/ possibly a light hint of blue) let me know. you can paypal me $1 to cover shipping and i'll send you more than enough.

read the thread, if i understood it correctly, you put red cellophane in it to get white, then put whatever color you want your display to be over the red.

i was this close on changing the color..

i was this close on changin the color, but i had to fix the NON-WORKING clock first...

After fixing the Bose Display, i decided to play around with the clock.. i just had to re-solder a resistor on the outer edge .. i plugged it in before putting it back together and WALAAH !! it WORKED !!

Now that i have a GREEN BOSE Display, i decided to stik wit the Green CLOCK .. Thanks u guys !!

just to add in on all the other great info here. I have succesfully changed the color of clock, auto climate, and bose radio.Sorry have no pic but the color comes out a white'ish blue. And all you need is one layer on red cello paper its a dark red, i found it at a 99 cents store. takes a lot of work to take everything apart but the outcome is really nice. Good luck to all.
