A little electronic lesson for you (and your dad):
LCD = Liquid Crystal Display (aka-digital number displayer)
http://home.howstuffworks.com//digital-clock.htm
This link will teach you and your dad the difference between the two.
LED = Light Emitting Diode (aka-a little tiny light, often seen on rear spoilers)

This link will clarify your confusion as well.

sorry to bring back an old thread.
anyone know what other color schemes can be created using 1 layer of cellophane paper? i wanted to make my clock red, but using more than 1 layer of the cellophane paper really dims it too much.
i would like to kno peoples experience with different colors.
before i go try everything. yellow, blue, orange, purple, etc?

just a quick note on tape :: 3M double-sided tape is archival and won't change color over time. that's when its doesn't have a temperature or light against it but i thought you guys might appreciate knowing this. when using tape on your car for projects like this, consider 3M archival tape!

Does the dashboard piece you slowly pry open hard to pop off? I tried doing it but was hesitant to apply more pressure because I dont want to crack the piece. Also, are the vents attached to the clock piece as well? Man, this was so much easier on my 94.... Thanks in advance....

Sorry for huge bump. I did this project today, and my clock is extremley dim. Looks nothing like any if your pictures. I taped the red cellophane on the face of the clock. Did I do something wrong? I have a 5th gen btw. Any help would be appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I noticed that he said that you need to do it on the actual LCD and not the cover. How do you get in between the glass cover and the LCD???? Thanks
