What should my RPMs be at idle?

I have a stock 97 auto with no mods. It has always idled at around 1500 RPM. Is this normal or should it be lower?

idle in park should be around 6-700 rpms that is the norm.

1500 rpm is way too high. Mine idles about 600-750 rpm. Check your car for codes and clean your throttle body. That should take care of your problem.

OK, I think I'm OK. I checked them tonight on the drive home from work. The RPMs are at 1500 when I start the car, but then they go down to 750. They're also in the 600-700 range when I'm at a stop light (with the transmission in "D" position). I did clean the TB this past weekend and the acceleration is much better now.

On cold starts, the car idles at 1500. Mine does it, so does every other Maxima. It's normal. When the car warms up, the idle drops to around 600 for manuals, and a little higher for autotragics.
