I did the little trick of pulling up on the the little metal swich in the locking mechanism so that the trunk couldn't be opened without the key. Or at least that is what i was told. But now i cant get into my trunk with the key or the button. What do i do to get it open?

Ok I have done this but...

The key works for me. Unless your key has never worked it should always open your trunk. The switch in the trunk just prevents lever or button from working so someone can't steal your stuff unless they have a key. No here is the funny part. I left my keys in the trunk when I was playing around with my system, and the lever was deactivated. How did I get in??? Well, I poped my shoulder out of place and squezed partly through the port in the back seat, reaching over the box and eventually flipping the latch back so my lever would work. This was about a 40 minute project, that day sucked. Good luck!!

it would be easier if

you took out your rear seats then the brace and crawl right through to reach the lever. Have fun!!!

Maxima comes with 3 keys. One of them is valet key which can not open the trunk or glove box compartment. Make sure you use the regular key to open the trunk not the valet key.

hmm..

i don't have this done, but a while back my trunk would not open unless it was opened from the inside with the lever. and then eventually it wouldn't open at all(lever or key). it turns out the lock got jammed from Disuse or at least that is what the mechanic told me. all he did was give it a good lube and it was working fine again. it that time i hardley ever used the key. if you haven't used your key in a while that may be whats going on.

I finally got it open. After waiting a while i went out to my car and the key opened it. I think the lock is messed up cause i never use the key to open it. Also I am curious how to take out the rear seats. Where are they fastened?

rear seats removal

looking down on your rear seats (the cushion you actually sits on) pull up from the front and out. Then you will see bolts holding the backrest, just unbolt then and pull up and toward you(i think) Then just unbolt the brace.

I also push the latch down, so the only way to open the trunk is the key. Plus, I took out the fuse for the trunk as well. Now, there's no way of opening the trunk without the key, unless you pick the lock.
