Just Got My Quaife

Ok... The Quafie is here. I'm a bit suprised for something costing $1400, the dam thing is pretty small. I hope this thing does what it claims. Starting next week it will be installed into the 5spd box. Only question though, there were no prep instructions??? I figured some form of documentation would come with it before installation... I guess my mechanic will be able to swap out the old system. I was able to get my hands on the Dealers Manual plus the Quife instruction published by VQPower. The only thing I've noticed was there was very little oil on the unit. Should this thing be lubricated before installation??? Anyways... I'll Keep you guys posted...

the tranny fluid will do the lubrication so dont worry about that. also while your at it why not replace the seals and bearings and check shimming

Well. Thats my next big qestion. I got the 2-bearings and 2-selas, and a speedo-gear. But the shiming is the qestion?? According to VQpower they specified this ----> shims total parts from the dealer with www.maxima.org discount $174.00 including the two $7.00 shims.

I've asked the dealer about the shims and they wernt sure of this. Exactly what specific shims do i need if any??? Is there a part number??? Or is it something I need to pre-measure with a precision gauge??? My mechanic told me that the diff should be a swap-out. I guess we will play it by ear...

well there is no pre determined size shim you buy until after the tranny is removed and the freeplay is measured with a dial indicator to see what size you need. yes the diff is a direct swap but you always want the endplay of the diff to be in spec or you will have bearing problems sometime int the future
