MAFS bad? apexi air filter to blame?

so i install my intake and about 2-3 weeks later i notice some odd things happening. first, when i come to a stop my engine "jumps down" in rmps. at first it was vague... but now it is very notaceable. the car just vibrates for a split second and the rmps drop. and it happens very often. then i have been noticing a loss in power. it seems like the engine bogs down and does not want to shift when i come from a stop, but if i go wot then it is o.k. performace wise. and then i was in my engine bay and i reved my engine for a bit and i smelt something odd. emax02 was there and he thinks it smells like oil... and the mafs is the cause. he is the one who sold me his apexi filter, and he got rid of it because the filter fryed 4 of his mafs when he had it on. but as soon as he got rid of the filter his mafs has been fine. so is this the case? should i get rid of my filter? thanks.

how is the filter to blame?! Are the apexi re-usuable like K&Ns?! If so, was it oiled too much?! But i mean even that i dont think would cause that. It would eventually dry up. Are you sure your Intake is fitted fine, no lose hoses, all vac lines tight, etc etc? When i was doing my intake, we forgot one of the hoses, and i got a stumbling problem you described and when i ran the ECU check, MAF sensor came up...But obviously it wasnt messed up.

Also, why didnt he tell you before hand the filter cost him 4 MAFs (which i HIGHLY doubt), and then, why did you buy it?!?

Odd circumstances...

It could be that your MAF has a loose connection. Check that. I doubt the Apexi is at fault. It is known that the 2K2 MAFs went downhill in terms of quality. 4th Gen MAFS are very reliable. Also, the Apexi is not re-oilable. You just use it, then dump it.

i checked the connections already but i will go out and check them again just to make sure.

ethan (emax02) did tell me that it cost him 4 mafs, but i bought it anyway. like dwapenyi said, the 2k2's mafs kinda stink and they blow easily. so i thought that i would not have that problem because the 4th gens are build well. ethan did not try to haggle me, he is a pretty good friend of mine. but i am not sure what to do.. i really like my intake and it cost me almost 200 bucks. (the filter was expensive) so i want to see if it is really the cause first. and also is it bad for my engine? so i not drive my car? thanks.

i also changed my fuel filter and my spark plugs. although.... well... i don't wanna say this because it is , and please don't flame me... because i tryed... really hard... i did!!!!.... i only changed my front three spark plugs.

i have done plugs before and they are probably the easyiest thing i have ever done, but the rear three would not come out!!! it is not an issue of strength because it feels like the socket is not even grabbing... almost like the socket is too big or too small... which is imposiable because they are all the same size. i don't know what the problem is!!! i have tryed 3 times, pushing, and turning on all three rear plugs but no go! ahh! it is driving me insane and i feel inferior. but could that be my problem?

Your spark plug socket wall may be too thick, or the interior depth is to shallow. It may have just barely benn biting the front plugs. Take your socket to a tool store and find one that is thinner and deeper.

There could be crud in the holes also, which may prevent your socket from dropping down and over the plugs. Try using a mirror and light to look down into the hole. It may be very hard to do on the rear of Max engine though. Find a limber gal with a nice butt to help, then stand back and watch.

And use a vacuum hose to clean out the plug holes before trying to remove spark plugs. You should always do this anyway on all plugs to prevent any harmful debri from falling into the cylinders.
