Help, This **** Might Get Me Hurt!!
ok, my brakes will jus go out for no reason. i can put the brake pedal almost to the floor and it feels like the pads are jus barely catchin enough to slow me down, not good if i need to stop in short distance. but then i can go 20 ft down the rd and they fine. usually if i pump the pedal,it will work again. is the this master or slave cylinders or anyhing like that? i need to kno wtf is goin on!

sounds like the brake master cylinder. I had one go out in another car, and it would do the same thing. Get it fixed ASAP!

rebuild? no, you can't do it, trust me. You can replace it yourself. You have a haynes or chiltons? try courtesy nissan, www.courtesyparts.com or try calling them, they might give you a cheaper price if you mention the .org. Most local car parts places will require you to turn in your old one when you change it out, and will require a parts deposit until you do, and you will recieve a rebuilt one, not a new one. You won't notice a leak if yours is bad, the seals just begin to leak and won't hold pressure. You will have to bleed your entire brake system once your done, so if your not comfortable doing that, then I would take it to a proffesional, its not worth your life. I strongly recommend not driving the car until you get it fixed, again, not worth your life.

I agree that it appears to be the Master Cylinder. I remember when mines went bad that I had to double pump my brakes for it to work properly, if I pumped the brake once I would have to pump it hard and almost to the floor.

The Master Cylinder in my Honda died the exact same way. Every now and then my foot would sink to the floor.
It was an experiance getting it out of NYC the day it happened!
