opening tranny case

I am in the process of doing an auto to manual conversion and I figured that I will do it right. Since the tranny is going to take much abuse, I figure I will have the gears strenghtened. But I was trying to open the tranny and ran into a little problem. I removed all the bolts that held the casing together and attempted to pry it open. It opened partially but the casing would not come apart. What am I doing wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
