If you just remove the whole door panel {which has a few screws and clips holding it on} then the door handel cups practically fall out.Don't worry about the cups because there only like 6 bucks a piece.Have fun replacing them!

They are standard on GXEs and GLEs. SEs have color-matched trim standard.

What are you having trouble with? It's easy if you take your time. I could remove and replace them blindfolded in a minute or two now.

Have u tried on a 99? Trust me, the last thing I wanna do is cause any damage or the slightest scratch on or in my car!..
Maybe we can hook up and I'll bring the blindfold..

I tink mannylove was talking about interior door handles, when you get the door panel loose just wiggle it around and the cup will pop out, it's the best way trust me they wont break.

Ok, I had same problem when fixing my power windows. The thing with those damn cups is that they are mounted without screws, and they just clip on on both sides. But you can't just try and pull it up. you kindof have to hook it underneath and try and pull it to the side and then out. It was a ***** and a half to do learn that.

I have the chrome rims that I do like and they match my rims too, but I am getting new rims and there most likely not going to be chrome and so I was thinking of changing my door handles to the mathing color of the car like on all SE'S. Where have you guys been getting you door handles and how much have they been costing you? Also I might want to change the chrome in the front the matching color of the car too. Has anyone done that?If you have where did you get them and how much? Thanks in advance

I'm looking in the junkyards around here for SE door handles and an SE grill. I would like to get rid of the chrome door handles and the chrome grill on my 98 GXE. The only chrome showing will be around the door sills. Just enough to highlight the chrome rims once I buy them. A guy locally said he could paint them for me but i'm kind of skeptical. Will paint adhere to chrome properly? or is it a mess waiting to happen?

Well, the handles aren't made of chromium or anything... It's just a chrome finish on the metal. So for it to be painted properly, the chrome finish needs to be chemically stripped first, so that the paint can be applied to the bare metal. Then there would be no problems.

thanks for posting this

I too hate the chrome handles on my 96 GXE. Is there anyone who knows a good paint that will stick well to chrome?
thanks for your time.

I painted my chrome grille on my superblack 98 GXE. I used some ****ty paint at 1st which didn't work out well... THen I got a can of flexible, molding and bumper paint from pepboys, it is great, no chips yet, it actually stuck onto the chrome nicely. I also used some primer. Only thing is, it's not nice and shiny like the factory paint but still looks 10X better!

For the door handles, I used carbon fiber vinyl from ap-signworks.com to stick it right over them, it looks a lot better. I'm eventually going to do the same to the window trim.
