Guys with Valvebody mod done, which one do you have and do you feel any difference? And is one better than the other?

The company and the modification are two different things.

I have Don's VB and I love it. It's not so harsh that it feels like the car's going to break apart at every shift, it's nice and crisp. Nothing like the lagging stock shifts. The 1st and 2nd gear shifts are crisper than the 3rd and 4th but that's just fine for me.

If you are, however, thinking about sending your VB to Don to get it done, you might be out of luck. You have to most likely get it done at MaxxTuning. If you're thinking about buying Don's VB from someone, I say go for it.

I hear nothing but good things for Jeff @ Maxxtuning, and I hear Don is very hard to get ahold of. Having driven Jeff's work, I was impressed. I hate shift kits b/c they make me want an auto..

True, but I was referring to the type of business he will encounter once he decides to make up his mind

i got my vb from maximum tunning stage 2. i spoke with jeff several times and he was extremely helpful, and always stopped what he was doing to answer my questions. it took a week and a half for the vb to get here and im still waiting for my cooler and kit.

on a side note anyone know if there are any special tools or items needed for the install? ive messed with a lot of stuff in the car, but i know virtually nothing about trannies. or even better is there a site with detailed instructions for morons that i can use?

thanks

You won't need anything expect a rachet and some tranny fluid. And a new gasket if you want to replace that too.

I will be putting something together on my cardomain site on how to install it this weekend hopefully. I just took mine out and took a bunch of pictures. I'll post a link when I'm done.

I could be wrong.... and I know it will be pointed ot if I am but Mobiletek did have detailed install instructions on their site at one time.

The biggest challenge is knowing which bolts need to be removed - VERY INPORTANT!

They do but it's just a .pdf picture that if you print it, it comes out blurry. I have an actual picture of the VB that I was going to mark all the bolts that need to be removed. Should be a lot more helpful.

Thanks guys, i'm buying a used one that was modified by Mobiletek. And it comes with a tranny coooler which is highly recommended if your doing the mod.

And i know that Mobiletek has a special pricing going on till tomorrow for the valve body mod for $325.

Here is one of the emails they sent me....

Just a reminder, we extended our $325 special (normally $450) thru Saturday, May 3rd. We've had really good response with this, and decided to extend it thru the weekend.

If you can't get yours scheduled or can't do the swap that quick, that’s ok! A $150 deposit before EOB Saturday will hold the $325 price for you, then you can pay the balance when you schedule your VB work.

Let us know asap, Saturday is only 4 days away!

Definitely get a Maximum Tuning VB over a Mobiletek because:
1) Jeff is easy to get in touch with and do business with
2) You can choose what stage you want, Mobiletek offers only 1
3) Can't beat the price, Mobiletek is way too much

Especially if he keeps your money and gives you nothing in return.

Can't believe he still has the nerve to advertise.

Don't you guys read the Dealer and Vendorship forum?

It's not that there are problems with it. It's paying the hefty price, waiting the long period of time, and only have one option as far as firmness of shifts goes

Well, from a stop and hitting th gas hard you will feel a good sharp shift However, if your already going and you decide to gun it...you will still feel a quick shift but it's not as hard as if you were from a dead stop and go WOT.

thing about Don's VB is not the question of the quality of his work,
but the poor customer service.

I remember people going crazy trying to get in contact with him.. no email answers, no phone answers.
Some waited 8 months for their VB after having paid and even sold their car while still waiting for their recalibrated Valve Body.
If you're willing to wait the unknown amount of time and pay more $ then go ahead with Dons VB. I heard nothing but great things about Jeff's Valve Body mod from Maximumtunning

This is not a matter of POOR customer service or slow response.

Its a matter of Don stealing peoples money and giving nothing in return. Read the Dealer and Vendor Forum if you haven't been there for a few months.

ok first off my vb is sitting in my garage waiting for my cooler and kit to arrive, so all info i have is from what i have researched or was told by jeff at maximum tunning.

first off with maximum tunning there is no downtime except however long it takes you or your mechanic to put it in. maximum tunning will send you everything you order for a $200 deposit, when you switch your vb for his you repackage yours and ship it back to maximum tunning and then you get your 200 back. total cost was 325 for vb 60 for cooler and kit, 150 for new soleniods and 200 deposit. around 700.

ok there are 3 stages: as explained to me, stage on is almost like stock, stage two(street strip, the one i purchased)will give a firm 1-2-3 shift and little firmer than stock 3-4. Stage 3 is supposed to be like getting punched in the kidneys every time you accelerate.

i hope this helps and isnt misleading. to see or hear for yourselves go here http://www.maximumtuning.net/ or call (516)676-8470 and ask for jeff. i called him 3 times and he dropped everything each time to talk to me.

good luck,
jarrad

IF you need to place the how to somewhere, I can put it on vqpower.com

BTW, COuld someone explain to me how a harder shifting transmission improves its life? I do however know that if your transmission shifts like butter you have a problem.

first of let me tell you that i have stage two and i love it.

luke, you can get the install off of my do it yourself guide at

www.pitt.edu/~sasst94/

it has a direct link to the mobiltek directions.

also, the reason why it last longer (or so ive heard) is because the gears fit right into the teeth because the vb slams them together instead of loosely fitting the gears together like stock.

enjoy your vb kids!

I had mine done at Jeffs. I feel a huge difference in the 1-2 shift and a small difference in the 2-3 shift. I think it was worth it, and Jeff is a great guy.
Good luck,
Dan
