budget Y installed. Leathal combo with VI.

I got my Y installed today. took me about an hour and 45 minutes.(inculding a trip to wal mart for a socket nuckle. Initial opinion, Not as much of a difference as I expected, but I also know that it takes a week or so to recieve the full benifit due to the ECU learning cycle. But when my VI kicks in it is awesome. I can "feel"
when the VI cuts on, and barking 3rd is no problem every time. I can't wait to get to the track Friday night, hopefuly by then it will be a bit stronger. I am hopeing for some mid to low 14's since I ran a 14.8 stock.

Sounds great. Most people say they feel it more after a week or so. A 14.8 is a very good stock time

woah woah woah. did you say you can spin tire in 3rd gear with no problem? what do you have on your car besides the Y pipe and VI? I don't even think the VI would help with this...i didn't think a maxima could easily spin tires in 3rd with just a y pipe....

POPCharger with midpipe
VI set at 5K
ACT street clutch
newly rebuilt 5 speed
budget Y pipe.

14.8!

See - this just shows how slow the Auto is.
I'm boosted and my best time is 14.7, with the VI and 3.25" Pulley!

Thank god my car is in mid-5spd swap in the garage right now.

What tools do you need the install? My y pipe should come in any day now. What problems should I look out for? THanks

In my case a deep well 14mm socket, a 12 mm socket,10mm socket, a 8" extension,
a 3/8" socket wrench, breaking bar, and adjustable wrench (too cheap to buy an o2 wrench.

AKA Cheater bar, it is a pipe or other object put on the end of a ratchet to give you better leverage by lengthening it.

Don't forget he runs at Steele in Alabama which seems to post some of the best ET/MPHs to modification ratio on this Org. Sleeper ran a 14.4@98mph with his MEVI/G-Force/Y/E/I automagic on that track.

Track Conspiracy Dave strikes again :attention

Nah... I've never run totally stock, but last year, when all I had was a K&N panel filter my times steadily dropped as I learned to drive.

First night out, my best was 16.1... later 15.8, then 15.4...

Finally, I was running 15.2@89 with just a panel filter. Changing that to an open cone filter got me the 15.1@90

I drove a friend's totally stock 97 GXE Auto to 15.4 (his best was 15.7).

And yes, we run at MMP.

I defintly notice a lot of fast times coming from that area. Some guy ran a 14.4 in a Tiburon down there.

What elevation are those 2 tracks at?

MMP is 170ft and Steele is more like 550ft

A guy in our local club ran 14.1@100 in his stock G35 Sedan 6speed

Those G35's typically run 14.4's right? A stock 14.1 is phenomenal!

You should come to my track. 1500 ft high and the last 300 ft of the 1320 are uphill. It's pretty sweet.

My first run at a track was 16.2 bone stock with some heavy 02 SE wheels/tires. I can't remember my 2nd run but it was a bit better, still in the 16's.

I now have a y-pipe and plan to go back to the 16" wheels I had before for the track.

I need to talk to Ben for some automagic track tips

When I first bought my 95 Maxima Se 5 speed, I just took out the stock air filter and I fell in love with the growl. Then I raced off to the on ramp to see what all the gears felt like, and I broke em lose in third a couple times. Now my stock clutch(supposidly new) when I got the car, but slips when the car is getting beat on. I need to get a ACT and my stillen Y pipe is coming now. I also have a test pipe(warpspeed) but peeps have said dosent make a diff. I want to get to the track now!!
