alrite. i have search through the forum. and it seems that no one knows for sure whether or not i can put oem fog lights onto my 95 maxima gxe. my maxima is a base GXE with an automatic transmission.

if i look under there the fog lights are suppose to be. what am i looking for? and what else shoudl i look for to know if i can get the oem fog lights or not?

oh. and i'm planning to replce my 95 maxima bumper and grill to the 97 maxima. this would not cause problems with the fog lights, correct? 95-99 fog lights are the same, rite? thanks

pleas someone help me out. thanks

95-96 and 97-99 foglights are completely different, you'll need to change them when you change the bumper.

as far as I know you can add the OEM fogs to any maxima that does not already have them because the wiring is there. you just have to get the foglight kit from nissan which will also include a new headlight switch/stalk to turn the fogs on or off. try courtesy nissan, you will get a good price from them. in answer to your other question, no, all 4th gen fogs are not the same. 95-96 are the same, but when the bumper, grill, and headlights changed for 97-99 so did the style of the fogs. hope this helps.

The wiring is the same. But the actual foglamp assemblies are different between a 95/96 and the 97-99. The turn signal stalk is the same me also.

If your car has power drivers seat, intermittent wipers and power mirrors, it will most likely be pre-wired for the foglamp kit.

Call up the dealership. When I called up White Plains Nissan, they said that you could add them to any '95-'96 GLE and the GXE's with the power seat or the intermittent wipers as standard equipment. But, you could always believe everybody else and cut open the bumper to find out that they don't come prewired!

How would you mount the fog lamp in the 95 bumper? I assume if you cut out the 'fog light spot' it would fit there, but seems like there would be no mounting bracket behind it to hold the lamp, also, would this way really look clean? How do you do it if it can be done?

These brackets are made of stamped steel and form a rectangular surround that holds the foglamp assembly. This bracket bolts to the bottom of the bumper inside the bumper cover.

So you cut your GLE/GXE bumper and buy some Nissan foglight brackets and foglights and you're set? anyone done this?
do you have to buy a foglight switch from Nissan? does it plug into an empty port next to the dash dimmer switch? Someone mentioned something about a turn signal stalk?
fill me in, please, if this will work, I'd like to look into it. thanks

Check to make sure you have the pre-wired setup. If you have power drivers seat, intermittent wipers and power mirrors, you probably do. Next, call up:

Tell them the year of your car and that you were refered by Maxima.org. The kit costs about $175. It comes with 10 bolts, two brackets, two foglamps, a new turn signal stalk with built-in foglamp switch, a relay and detailed instructions on how to install and adjust the foglamps.

Well, I have another question then. I have a 96 GXE 5 speed, all I got is power mirrors and I know the wiring for the power seats is there, I already installed the foglight switch (the turn signal replacement), and put in the relay, one of my fogs was cracked so I am waiting for new ones. Should I cut out the holes or not, is the wiring there, who actually didn't have the car prewired?

To cut the holes is your choice...it does no harm to do so...'97-'99s have a hole open already with a little slat to fill up the hole (which is cut away when installing the foglamps). IF you have all of the other wiring, it is safe to assume that the foglamp connections are there too. I personally don't know anyone who's car didn't have the pre-wiring for the foglamps. Most of the cars sold HAVE the Comfort, Security and Convenience package. The only cars that don't are the rental cars Nissan sells to Enterprise and other rental agencies. I suspect that these cars DON'T have the pre-wiring.

I cut out the holes..........the wires are there, so I gues its safe to say all the maximas are pre-wired. As far as the interminent wipers, how much does the stalk go for? Is it worth it to replace, will it work just as a replacement, or do I need a different relay too?

wiring diagram

I know it's been a long time since the last post on this thread but by any chance does anyone know how i should wire the switch for my fogs? I have a 95 GLE and mounted the fogs conected them to the oem wiring and added the relay but instead of the stalk i bought me a oem nissian switch for the fogs that fits on the slot next to the dimmer switch. Problem is, that i don't have a clue if there is any wires that would connect to the switch and how to connect them. Thanks.

The stalk thing is not actually necessary if you are lazy and have a few wires around. For my fog lights I just wired them up using a relay with the corner lights as my trigger. So when I turn on my parking lights the fogs come on and then stay on when my headlights are on.

I am too lazy to wait for a light stalk with a fog switch to get shipped over to me and so I just wired them up that way.

Oh and in case you are wondering, my signature picture was taken before I installed my fog lights

THANKS FOR THE REPLY, BUT I'M NOT REALLY LOOKING INTO HAVING THE FOGS ON ALL THE TIME. I JUST WANT THEM FOR WHEN I REALLY NEED THEM. I HAVE IN MY HANDS THE FOLLOWING SWITCH,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

AND THATS THE ONE THAT I WAS WONDERING IF I CAN CONNECT TO POWER THE FOGS ON INSTEAD OF THE STALK.

You can use this switch, but you have to cut the plug off of it, cut the plug off the car and splice the wires. Then you add the repay and the fogs and there we go

BY THE WAY I WAS THINKING OF JUST GETTING THEM HOOKED UP LIKE Leo_Koneval SAID HE DID, BUT DO I NEED A SWITCH FOR THAT OR JUST WITH THE ONE THE TURNS ON THE CORNERS?

Nope, no switch needed... I mean unless you count the parking lights as a "switch"... but you already have it.

You have to take off the plastic guard that is under the steering column. Then take off the plastic pieces behind the steering wheel. Behind the headlight stalk you will see a small white plug, which may be covered with blue tape. This is the fog light plug. You might have to get the headlight stalk out to reach there. Then cut that plug and splice two wires into the 2 wires of the switch you have and put it in the empty spot the dash on your maxima have.

If you just splice the fogs into the parking light you do not need a switch. Your fogs will come on with the parking light.

THANKS TO ALL FOR THE HELP.
FIRST I'M GOING TO CHECK BEHIND THE STALK FOR THE PLUG BECAUSE I REALLY DO WANT A SWITCH SINCE I DONT PLAN ON HAVING THE FOGS ON ALL THE TIME. BUT IF FOR SOME REASON I DON'T FIND IT THEN I WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO SPLICE INTO THE PARKING LIGHTS.

I'LL UPDATE ON HOW IT GOES.
THANKS AGAIN.

WELL I TRIED CONNECTING THE SWITCH TO THE FACTORY FOG WIRES BUT COULDNT GET IT TO WORK. AFTER THAT I LEFT THE WIRES JUST WRAPPED WITH ELEC. TAPE AND NEXT THING I KNOW THE MAX WOULDN'T TURN ON. I THOUGHT I HAD DONE A CIRCUIT SHORTAGE OR SOMETHING AND THEN MY FATHER IN LAW TOLD ME THAT MAYBE THE STARTER DIDN'T WORK NO MORE. SO I WENT TO BUY A NEW STARTER AND TO MY SURPRISE THAT WASN'T IT. THE MAX STILL WOULDN'T TURN ON. AT THE END AFTER ALMOST 2 HOURS MY NEIGHBOR SUGGESTED THAT IT MIGHT BE THAT I NEEDED TO RE-CONNECT THE PLUG AFTER ALL THE HASSLE AND SPENDING ABOUT $200 FOR NOTHNG IT TURNED OUT THAT I NEEDED THAT PLUG R-CONNECTED AS IT WAS BEFORE. I HAD NO IDEA THAT A CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON BECAUSE OF A MISSNG PLUG THAT AT THE END IS NOT CONNECTED TO ANYTHING IT'S JUST THERE......ON THE BRIGHT SIDE ATLEAST I GOT A BRAND NEW STARTER WITH LIFE TME WARRANTY

Please turn off your caps lock!

Your gxe is completely pre-wired for fogs as I'm sure you found out by installing the fogs themselves and finding the connectors behind the bumper cover. In order to install the fogs exactly as they came from the factory you would need the fogs and brackets, the relay, and a 95-96 headlight stalk with fog control. 97-99 stalk is different. Swapping out your existing stalk for the new one is simple plug and play and will give you fog light control as if it came from the factory.

Now you could make any switch work but it will require modification. I'm not sure what model that switch you ordered originally came with but it wasn't the 95-96 maxima which you have. You would have to splice it into the harness that leads to the stalk and extend the wires to place that switch where you would like it. I'd suggest getting the 95-96 stalk popping it in and being done with it.

After all the hassle that I went thru, I finally got the switch to work..
And the switch fits perfectly on the center console where the oem seat warmer switch goes. That's great no aftermarket switch for me....only oem.

well finially got all the fog light installed on my 95 max, had to cut open the plastic spots to get them in there, and the plug in wires were right there, just taped up, so I installed the brackets, relay and the stalk, and the fuse, plugged it up and none of the fogs come on, I will try to see if the bulbs are bad, cause for now I just have them sitting inside the brackets on the bumper, because it seemed impossible to install with the bumper on or does somebody know another way to screw the fogs into the brackets??
