Throttle body cleaning

Throttle body cleaning
Searching for the best method of cleaning out the tb. Do most of you guys remove the tb in the manner shown in the haynes manual, or do you leave it on and just use the cables to hold the throttle open? Do most of you leave the engine running? I assume that's a bad tactic (allows foreign matter to get into engine). I've been somewhat leery and haven't cleaned past the butterfly plate (haven't attempted to open it to get further inside). Anything, ppl?

Re: Throttle body cleaning
I cleaned my throttlebody a couple weeks ago. I just pulled all of the wire harnesses and throttle cables off and then removed the 4 bolts holding it to the manifold. Then I was able to get at the interior side of the tb and clean it. (I left the hoses attached on the underside as they were too much of a pain to get at) Most of the gunk on the tb is on the other side of the butterfly so that's why I decided to pull it off to clean it.
My opinion: DO NOT LEAVE THE CAR RUNNING no matter how you try to clean it.

there was another thread were a lot of people were saying how it's better to clean it while the engine is running. it supposedly cleans everything a lot more, but it seems everyone in this thread is contradicting that... weird

I wish I would have asked a few Q's before I replaced my injectors back in the day... if I did, I would have only had to have done it once.
