DROP with 235 tires READ! please

i currently have 17x7 g35 wheels with 225/50/17 tires on them. the width makes the tires flush with my fenders.(not the wheelgap) im looking for 235/45/17 tires soon but i think those will protrude out past the fender. after my drop.i think it will rub on bumps. anyone else ever have these probs.? the rear end seems to be ok. i think the maxima wheel stance in front is larger.. or fenders flare out a lil more in the rear.

I thought it was not recommended to run 235/45/17 tires with 7" wide rims. It may be different for different tire manufacturers. I once contacted Yokohama about this, and was told by them that they do not recommend this setup due to the rim being to narrow for the tire. I went back to Discount Tire with the info in hand and got a new set of 17X8 from them and gave them back the 17x7's.

Most won't recomend it. I wouldn't do it. But many do w/o any problems.

I'd think that the only problem you'd have is a weird "cupping" effect of the tire.

With the rim being too small, you'd have a "U" looking tire with less of the tire's sides making contact with the ground. Also with a small rim you will generally have more sidewall flex due to the tire not being as stretched out.

When the rim is too big, you'd have a "W" looking pattern with the middle of your tire bowing up in the center because the sides are stretched out, leaving you with less contact patch in the center of the tire.

But it all depends on how the tire was designed.

ahha.nice..im getting like 50/50 bad good responses.. probably gonna stick with 225 or 215's and save some gas.i dont plan on tracking or autox ever..just for looks and personal driving pleasure with the added ability to take a turn hard if i ever felt the need. what would u guys say.. higher qulity performance 215 or 225 or slightly lesser performance 235's?(cause they tend to cost more) its a 7 inch rim remember.

Go with the 225's. you can probably find a 225 that has almost the same tread width as a 235.
