Had to boost today with the 5spd

Well, as some of you know, I finally finished the 5spd conversion about 3 days ago.

(see pic below - the shift **** is now correctly placed also, but I haven't taken a pic yet)

Anyway - I'm being real nice to the clutch and trying to keep it below 3500RPM while I break it in.

But yesterday, I was driving downtown and this stupid cab SLAMMED on his brakes in front of me for no reason. My choices were to either slam on my brakes and hopefully not hit him, or downshift to 2nd (at 40 mph) and floor it while changing lanes to avoid traffic coming up in the other lane and get out of the danger area.

So I downshifted and floored it.

OMG!

I spun all the way through 2nd, then chirped 3rd.

I think I'm gonna like this 5spd thing...heh

So the quesiton is - will hitting it hard like that once do anything to my clutch break-in?

Thanks!

No - i have Sirrius Sattelite radio and it's built into my head-unit.

That is an Apexi Air Flow Computer.

(Air/Fuel Ratio computer)

The blue thing in his dash is an APEXi Super Air fuel controller, it modifies fuel flow. Shouldn't have hurt your clutch doing it once Ian, just don't make a habit of it until its broken in, or until I get to drive it.

no its an safc, but to elaborate further, it controls his air/fuel curves/mistures, to make sure that it is getting enough fuel all the time to kepp from creating a lean condition. the lean condition causes detonation, and wiht enough of that, you will see the death of a beautifully tuned vq. smart man. welcome to the 5spd world man-once you go, you'll never come back . I am just waiting on the cash to get mine back in the road-vlsd baby!

I also have a Cartech Adjustable FMU - I've got double Air/Fuel protection on her.

Just make sure you drive it to work, drive out to lunch, and drive around for a little while before you go home. We could always trade cars while your working 12hr days... I drive 60 miles a day usually, I'm sure i could bump that up a little for ya...

Well, I guess I want the feeling of breaking it in myself...so if it blows up I only have myself to blame.

Besides, EB's been just begging to drive it, and that's the excuse I gave him....so he'd be pretty ****ed if I gave it to you for a couple of weeks....

heh, I was mostly joking but hey, I did most of the work, he'd have nothing to bish about! I didn't see him under the car pushing the tranny on... I do mostly freeway driving anyway, so it wouldn't help ya much.

Really? That's not that bad. Beats a paint job or a turbo...hmmmm...
I'm sure you've told the tale before, but how'd you get the stuff. Buy a totalled car? Junkyard? Inquiring minds...

Someone on the .org sold me all parts except 1 axle, the clutch, and the flywheel.

Tranny, clutch lines, pedals, etc, etc was $600 + shipping.

Yeah - thanks to mtrai760 for notifying me of it....

Although I get about 10 "you should buy this" E-Mails from him a week.

He's the reason I'm always broke, but always a little faster too.

For $600, I didn't care about VLSD. I can always upgrade later anyway.

(no, it's not VLSD)
