problem with idle after VI installation

After recently installing my VI (I changed all the gaskets including the IACV), with the transmission in D and at a complete stop, half the time the car idles normally at ~650rpm, but other half of the time, the car will idle at 1000 rpm. It's weird because at one stoplight the car might idle normally but at the very next stoplight, the car might idle at 1000rpm. I don't think it's leak because otherwise the car would always idle at 1000rpm or idle would fluctuate up and down. What gives?

I've actually noticed this too, and have yet to install my VI

I've never had that. Once I had a leak so the idle would fluctuate up and down at idle, but I can't think of any reason it would idle high and stay there.

Check the calibration of the TPS, throttle position sensor. If it the cal is above spec, the ECU may think the throttle is open and use a fuel/ignition setting other than the idle routine. With the throttle closed, the value should be between 0.35-0.65V, I believe.

Before you do this, you should also clean the throttle body. It may actually be slightly open due to carbon buildup. Perform this before you check the voltages/calibrate.

I had extreme fluctuations with my idle after the install. My problems were vacuum related.

I would definitely check the TPS.

I've been having fluctuations after my install and still have not been able to find the source. Usually, when my car is ideling it will drop to below normal (500 rpm) and either idle rough or idle fine for a few seconds. This still baffles me to this day. Checked everything I could, set the TPS and base idle a ton of times, and even replaced the IAC. Nothing helped. The funny thing is the car will seem to run rougher when dropping idle when it's not warmed up to normal operating temps. Even the techs at my work (Nissan Dealer) don't have a clue what is wrong. Oh well, guess I'll just turn up the boost and wait for something to explode now.
