Rattling from Front End

I have a 99 GXE 5 Spd with H&K Springs, Tokico Struts and Stillen FSB; the springs/struts have about 15K Miles on them, the car has 46K. I hear a metallic sound sometimes when I am driving on smooth roads, that is, not over obvious bumps when the front end goes up and down, but maybe when there is a small, barely perceptible dip in the road. I'm wondering if it's just the springs making the noise or what. (I have 15" 225/60 tires on alloys, so there's no rubbing, have been on the car since new.) I just became aware of the noise about 1 month ago when I was driving with the stereo off. With the stereo on at low levels, the noise can't be heard over the music.

Thanks,

Chip

Do you by any chance have an aftermarket Y-pipe? I had the same problem, but mine would rattle on a cold start, and go till the car warmed up a little. I finally got under the car and took the one bracket in the middle of the car off, and pu some washers as spacers in between. Worked like a charm! If you don't have an aftermarket y, I don't know!

Where is the noise coming from? Is it just on either side or somewhere in front? Try bouncing either of the front sides to see if you can isolate the location. There's a lot going on in front so noises could be from anywhere.

I first noticed it on the left side, later heard it once when I pushed down on the left side (so I thought it was possibly just the spring) but can't recreate it. It also happens on the right and occasionally, I hear it from the "center", if you will. It might just be hitting subtle depressions in the road (can't really feel them) and I do not hear it when I hit a larger bump and the struts come into play. It also might just be that my car is no longer new and starting to make age related noises, but I wanted to check here to see if anybody has experienced the same thing.

Thanks,

Chip

I think i have the same problem. I hear a rattling sound from the rear, as if something (like my trunk) is loose or something. Its a metallic rattling sound, and its faint. Dont know what it is. Sometimes I hear it, sometimes I dont, but its definitely there.
