What Brand & How Much ATF needed?

I was wondering how much ATF is needed when installing a VB? Also, what brand is recommended?

I'm thinking about going with the Redline D4 ATF. So far the only two places that I know that have them are www.myoilshop.com and www.summitracing.com does anyone know of any other place?

Any recommendations or advise is appreciated. Thanks!

TJ

i would try to stick to the oem stuff from nissan. only thing is it's hard to find a dealer who sells it. they usually only use it for their service departments. i think it's called matic-d

Actually, synthetic fluids are much better than the "oem stuff." Some good brands are Royal Purple synth ATF, and Amsoil synth. ATF... Only thing is, they're quite expensive, and run up to 8-9 bucks a quart.

If you're dropping the vb, you need about 6 quarts to replenish what's been lost... You should go ahead and pick up 7 though, especially since you'll probably be throwing a tranny cooler on while you're at it.

Yes, it's better than conventional ATF's. If you're making the jump to synthetic, I would recommend going with either Amsoil or Redline though.

Pretty much. The total capacity of the tranny is 10 qts, so 12 ensures a complete flush.

12 is right, but as the ORIGINAL POST says... he's doing a vb install, not a tranny flush.

the 4.5 qts is what u get out if u just pull the plug and drain the fluid. There's still another 8.5 quarts in the torque convertor and the tranny casing.
