Ticking noise

Ticking noise
When I'm idling I hear a ticking sound that speeds up when I goose the throttle. Can't hear it when underway as exhaust and intake cover the noise up. Happens whether the engine is cold or warm. I have no error codes or drivability problems and the car pulls as well as the day I got it. Any ideas? Maybe valve problem?

How many miles does the car have? If it is a sound coming from valves, it depends on what is making the sound. With the engine running, open the hood and attempt to isolate the sound. Use a cone or funnel (maybe a rolled-up newspaper) to listen in general areas of the engine bay. Rev the engine by tugging on the throttle control and listen for increased volume or pitch. Try to decide if it is more of a ticking or a rattle. Once you isolate the sound, look for any abnormal conditions in the engine bay (leaking fluids, corroded wires, etc.) near the sound.

It's a '97 with 58000 miles on it. I'm the only owner. Definitely not rattle. There aren't any leaks or strange liquids, plus the car was just in for servicing PCV, Fuel filter and trans fluid. I should've asked then but 4got. The sound was happening b4 servicing so it wasn't anything they did. I could just be paranoid!
