very strange Max performance prob.

ok here is my story. the first time I took my max to the track, i had only a popcharger and midpipe. To prepare for the track I changed plugs, cleaned filter and added octane booster. The night was about 40 degrees, and i had a best run of 14.8!
Next mods were MEVI abd ACT clutch. it was 2 months later and the night was about 60 degrees. the best I ran was a 15.2, now I just
chalked this up to the fact that it was warmer and I knew that the MEVI alone would not net me any real 1/4 mile gains, still dissapointed though.
Next mod was Budget Y pipe, I replaced the fuel filter and PCV valve before I went. The night was about 70 degrees and humid. My best run was a 15.8! WWWWWW TTTTT FFFFFF!!!!!!! Even with the warmer weather I was sure I was going to get back into the 14's The "ONLY" thing I can think of that hurt me was the fact that I had my resonator removed and the exhaust shop replaced it with 1.75" pipe.
I have since had this fixed and had the 1.75" pipe replaced with 2.25" pipe. I also plan on installing a test pipe before I go back to the track Friday night. The car does feel stronger, but still not as strong as I think it should. How can a very strong stock car run slower with the mods that I have added? Can anyone tell me something I should check? I have a '96 5speed SE. and it runs absolutely perfect. just not as strong as it should be. Please tell me what I should do. The car has 160K miles.

You probably don't know how to launch with your ACT clutch yet.

I don't think that is it, and even if that was it then it would not account for being nearly a second off what I was at stock.

have you checked your computer for any codes (even if the CEL isnt on)?? Maybe the knock sensor is shot, that could be robbing you of alot of HP... Just a thought.....

It's in one of the threads labeled "Important:" at the top of the forum.

well now that ya know whats holding you back, just gotta cough up the 115 for a new sensor and then youll be much happier with your 1/4 times. It sure made a HUGE difference for me when i changed mine. Glad you found out what the problem was.

And it really isnt too bad of a fix. I was nervous fixing mine, but i just bent one of the brackets away a bit so my hand could fit in easier and it took me about 30 minuts, with very cuts on my hand after i bent the bracket.... oh and your gonna laugh so hard when you see just what your $115 is buying
