How to convince my friend to buy 4th gen?

A friend of mine is looking at buying a second car. He has a '99 Trans Am, and needs a daily driver and is sick of buying beaters. So naturally he starts looking at used Pontiacs because he likes his TA so much. How can I convince him to buy a 4th gen Max instead of a crappy Grand Prix? He is kind of "all-american" minded, so that makes it tough. Anyone here switch from the "all-american" attitude, and what made you switch? I just think that he'd be much happier with a Max in the long run.

I had 01 Impala LS which doesn't compare to a TA but is still American. The reason I changed is as soon as I drove my friends SE, it was all over. So take him and make him drive a maxima, tell him about all the benefits of driving a max and he should start likin it.

you can't convince someone to buy a 4th gen.

The 4th gen Maxima finds YOU.

I would say have him drive one. Before I bought mine I was all about german cars, I was really in to old type 3 VW and after my 2nd kid was born and a 30 min drive to work in Florida sun I decided I had to have somthin with AC and more power. I was dead set on a Vr6 Passat or Jetta. A deal I was working on fell through and I saw a 96 5sp superblack SE in the paper right around the corner so I went to test drive it and loved it, It was my first time and all. I wanted to compare the way it drove to another one so I went and looked at another one... I bought the second Max that I ever drove. I would have to agree THEY FIND YOU.

Hate to sound cliche. but what is wrong with you? Don't ever mix business with pleasure. Do you really want your friend to come and b1tch at you everytime there is a problem with his maxima? I can imagine "Shoulda bought that american car, instead of this maxima POS." eh....just a bit of advice.

I work in the IT field, and I try very hard to never help any of my friends in that regard, cuz I hate to be responsible for any faults (especially for free hehe). Don't like calls at 11pm.

Let him buy a crappy Pontiac then race him and blow his doors off. Then laugh at him when you are still driving your Max at 200k miles and he is getting major engine and tranny work done at like 65k.

Just a little rant.. It's not cool to just hit "reply to post" and hit submit, ADD SOME CONTENT, nobody enjoys reading the same exact thing twice. You all know who you are.

The best thing to do IMO would be to just let him drive your car... sometimes it can be really hard to change the mind of a domestic only mindset, so good luck.
