97 AT - 97 MT Conversion - ECU

2 things:

1) I had a 1997 GXE Auto - I converted to a 5spd.
I put the 97 SE MT ECU in my car - and now have NO CEL!!!

2) Right now, the ECU is just sitting on my passenger floorboard...I only had time to test this morning and not time to remove the AT ECU.

Anyone have any tips or tricks or even a full HOW2 for removing the stock ECU and installing a new one?

The ECU is held in its bracket with phillips head screws, two in front, two in back, iirc. You have to use one of those bent or L-shaped screw drivers to remove the back screws. Or you can use a phillips socket in a small ratchet. It is a royal PITA to do, especially if you are any larger than the average monkey. Under the dash work is the worst.

They also make those screwdriver/ratchet attachments that are made to bend. Not sure what they are made out of, but should be available at any home depot.

Good luck. I hate tedious **** like that. Patience runs thin ... but all is good once you are done and your final results are correct

Cool...I'll give it a shot.

This dispells the rumor even moreso (Ramius did this first, but on a 96, not a 97) that you have to have the entire Engine Harness to get rid of the CEL from a conversion.
