Recently I've been pulling ecu codes 0705 and 0903. I found out its for the evap control system. Its been on and off for a couple months now. Is it critical that I replace these parts now and how hard would it be to do it myself? About how much should it run me? Any help appreciated, thanks.

 

0705 Evap System Leak
0903 Vent Control Valve Circuit Fault

0705 is caused because your valve isn't working. (0903) You can either remove the valve and see if you can repair/clean it up and get it back in working order or just buy a new one.

The valve is located just behind the left rear wheel. You'll also see the EVAP Canister back there as well.

Just buy a new one. I tried cleaning mine and it seems to be a temporary fix if it works. It's very easy change the valve, and will probably take you less than 15-20 minutes to replace tops. 2 screws, 1 hose, and 1 electrical connector.

Where can I find these parts online? VMOK, do you have any pictures? My codes were 0708 "EVAP canister purge control valve/soenoid valve circuit". I have to check on it this weekend. With 0708 code, does it affect my gas mileage? Thanks for the help.

I would think you'd have to get the parts from a dealer if they are needed. What I did to remove the EVAP canister (0215-closed valve?): remove the left rear wheel, remove the covering on the wheel well, remove two screws on the REAR of the canister, remove two screws on the FRONT of the canister which is part of a mount(it will not fall), remove the three hoses connected to it, then remove the electric plug. Once you have the screws and hoses out you can slide it forward and then unhook it from a little hanger on the chassis. Since my prob was the valve, I managed to pop the top off of the valve and saturate the inside, working the valve back and forth. The screws connecting the valve to the canister would not back out so if I had to replace either I would need both. Maybe that's all you'll need. Parts were about $40-50 a piece if I remember. Pretty simple.

I had one hell of a time (The first time round). Dont remember what the part run, but I tried to just replace the valve, but couldnt get the bolts out. They are sort of tricky...one way operation only. I managed to get it out by busting up the canister. So I got a new one of those too. Put the new valve on the new Canister. Then just the other day got the same damn code(About 1 yr later). So I said forget that, and went to the salvage yard and pulled one off a '98 with 25k on it. Cost 10 bucks and 10 min to put on. Much better deal IMO if they only last 1 yr.

 

u should first try cleanin the valve. i dont think its a cheap part to replace... if cleaning doesnt help, then u can go ahead and buy a new one.

Anyone know why an engine light comes on when it spits out 0505 code.
I decoded the 0505 code and gotten "No Failure Recorded/Detected". I changed a couple of sensors in my car recently. Since there's no more failure recorded or detected in my car, shouldn't the CEL be off?
