help, my engine is knocking

ok i had the problem this past winter, but it went away when i got new spark plugs (copper ngk) but it has started again recently.

it happens only under hard acceleration, which i stopped doing for the time being. i cleaned my TB last month, and use 94 octane gas all the time. i just purchased amsoil fuel injection cleaner, and will use it once i go to the gas station.

but does anyone else know what the problem might be?
i don't have a CEL, so im guessing its not an ignition coil.
but i haven't checked for hidden codes.

they're all gapped to .042 which is right in the middle of the specified range.

hey wait a minute.. you have a 99... I think it might be your coils. my bro's 2k 5spd knocks all the time. I hvaent really done this research in the 5th gen forum, but he says the knocking is due to bad coils and that every 5th gen owners know that.. you might want to get a set of new coils and try them on or you can always get an AFC and tune your car out. we were gonna get an AFC for my brother but he says he found out the problem was with the coils. He gets no CEL light either.

and all of a sudden its messed up again.
how did he find out which coil to replace?

knocking is normal. i bet its not even knocking its just the timing chain rattling , yes it sounds that bad. mines a 95 auto w/ about 136,000 miles on it and its made a knocking , ticking sound the past 50,000 ive owned it. to fix it youll need the tension_plunger kit.good luck

I dunno about THAT statement...

As for figuring out what coil is bad...a couple things you can try:

1) unplug one coil and listen to the engine...if the RPMs drop, then
the coil is OK...if nothing happens, then the coil is defective.

When you do this one, you WILL get a CEL.

2) listen to each cylinder with a stethoscope (or, rubber tubing)
and hear for anything different.

This one is a little more difficult to determine what's what...

ASTIL -- can you further define your issue?
I know that there is a "dead spot" in the RPM range...don't remember exactly.

hope this helps,

my motor knocks/ticks , a mechanic told me its prob my injectors, is this possible? I also have a bad front 02 sesor code, could this have anything to do with it?

could be injectors...
could be lifters...

bad O2 sensor is not the issue...the sensor sits in an exhaust
pipe, so, the combustion has already taken place...

Dev, Your problem is not the coils! The knock probably sounds like a ball bearing rattling in a can, if this is the case it is detonation or spark knock. There are many causes of spark knocks including the build-up of carbon deposits, too lean of air fuel ratio, too high of a combustion for the octane grade, and the list goes on. Look up spark knock on Google or another internet search engine for more information. The reason I think it is spark knock is that you stated that it only happens under hard acceleration and that you had it and then it went away. This is my best guess!
