they tried steeling my max last night--What options do i have to remove my trunk lock

i came out of a diner last night around 12am, my car was parked in their parking lot, i tried goin in trunk to put umbrella away and saw my trunk lock hangin off

i know in my neighborhood to steel a maxima they take out your trunk lock and make a key that copies the trunk lock so they could use the same key to get in your car, they do this all on the spot

Now I used some glue for now to stick the lock back on the trunk

I also disconnected the trunk release inside of the drivers door panel so they could not get in my trunk to steel my system

I wanna know what can i do to remove the trunk lock completely from the back , i do not want to give them a option at all for tryin to get in, Now if i remove the trunk lock and disconnected the trunk release , how would i be able to get in my trunk? is there remote?

with my trunk release disconnected it also makes the trunk release button on my alarm not work

has anyone removed their key lock from the trunk?
how do u open it?

I think the only way to do it would be to remove the lock and than have the hole closed up by a body shop. I'm not sure what they would charge to do something like this, but I know people on here have done it.

I suggest posting another thread with a title like "ATTN those who have shaved trunk keyholes..." to get more information on that.

Here is the answer to all of your little needs! As I had a honda and I was a victim of the good ol' break in the car, pop the trunk, get the system crime. i figured with the max I wasnt going to make that mistake twice. the first thing I did when I got my max and put my goodies in the trunk was disable the trunk popper., and left the only option to open the trunk via the key. I am planning on shaving the keyhole completely in the future.... but to the goodies. as of last weekened I finally installed my remote start avital 6500 alarm on the max, I disabled the trunk pop switch in the drivers door, kept the popper activated in the trunk, and via the alarm and a relay, I have the alarm pop the trunk when necessary, now if you need any help at all locating the wire to pop the trunk and relays etc. just ask. believe me, it is a big problem down here in miami. I never knew that you could use a trunk lock cylinder to get another key made. that is crazy.

You can install a hood lock and use a steering pan with a clue on it as a security system. The reverse side of the clue has a temper resistance metal so it would be hard to pick. The theft can not drive your car away even, if they have a key to your car. What do you folks think of this system?

I can just flip a switch and my PN start wont work. Then the car wont trun on at all and they have to be pretty smart to figure it out. But i hope they dont break in in the first place.

Passive Alarm systems could be also Usefull.. With some air horns.
I would also recommend getting Clifford RSIII alarm system with two way remote that shows when someone breaks into any part of your car.. this is just recommendation you don't have to do it....

to answer some questions , yes when u disconnect the trunk release from inside the door you also disconnect it from working with the stock alarm remote unit, and yes as far as i know in my neighborhood they can take off any lock on your car and make the key that would open the lock within a few minutes, so that way when they do steel the car, it does not look obvious that a cylander is broken or anything , then they just place the lock that they pulled out over the spot, it wont hang or nothing so everything looks clean

so the way i can get my trunk to pop open is with an aftermarket alarm, because i tried disconnecting the trunk release from the inside the door but it also disabled my stock alarm unit from opening it as well

so is that the only option , to get an aftermarket alarm that will pop the trunk with a remote even when i disconnect it from the inside ?

thanks everyone for the replys
