Swirl value

Swirl value
I got a check engine light the other day, brought it to the dealership to have it diagnosed and they said it was a swirel valve problem.
Anyone know where this is located. I checked my Hayes manual and they don't say anything about it.
My best guess was it belongs in the toilet to make the water go in a circle.
Thanks Matt

The swirl valve is only found on California Spec models. Do you have a 99 by chance? The swirl valves activate when the engine is cold to swirl the intake air as it enters the combustion chamber to aid in mixing the air and fule for a cleaner burn while the engine is warming up. Once the car is up to operating temp, the swirl valves open up.
There is a vacuume actuator on the right side of the intake plenum down where it attaches to the intake manifold. That is the actuator for the swirl valves. If you start the car cold, that actuator will pull the swirl valves closed. Above 2,500 RPM's they open back up again. You can see the actuator open and close just by blipping the throttle when the car is cold. There is a valve that controls the vacuume to the actuator that may have gone bad. Follow the vacuume hose from the swirl valve actuator back to the valve, thats probably the source of your problem.

Wow thanks- half the tech's at Nissan had no clue.
Granted it was a Saturday and non actual Nissan certified mechanics were around.
Yeah, I own a 1999 Nissan Maxima- GXE
Its got the indilgo guages, aluminum dash kit, clear corners, Z3 fenders, Borbet chrome 17" rims, LED mirror turn signals, Trenz grille, Frankencar Intake, turns some heads....

Read this thread, it clearly shows your a picture of the Swirl Valves. The actuator is item marked #3, it's also disconnected and plugged in that picture.
