CAI owners -- ambient air temp sensor?

Just installed a PR CAI that I purchased used, with no instructions. I have a 97 SE, which has an ambient air temp sensor. I see where to install this in the upper pipe, but the method to install isn't immediately clear to me. No web instructions I could find give me any clue.

What I did was remove the grommet from the stock piping, put that grommet inside the CAI upper pipe, and place the sensor in through the hole, then in through the pipe. Is this correct?

Also, what are the two smaller holes in the upper pipe supposed to do?

Thanks in advance.

Yep, that's right.

I don't know what holes you are talking about. On the midpipe, there should be three tubes coming out, one larger than the other two and the hole for the Air Temp Sensor. The tubes that go over those tubes should all be attached to the original intake piping. Other than that, I don't know.

Sorry, I wasn't clear about the two smaller holes. I have the vacuum hoses all good. On my midpipe, on either side of and very close to the air temp sensor hole, there are 2 tiny holes, probably 1/8" or less in diameter.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

They weren't on my PR CAI, possibly the previous owner used them for something.

Yeah, they shouldn't be there. Go ahead and plug them up. Otherwise they will introduce unmetered airflow and throw off your air/fuel mixture.

Thanks for the info guys. I did cover the holes with some electrical tape. I saw no good reason for them to be there.

do you mean the sensor of some kind? when you take out the stock system there is a sensor that you have to take out its held in by a rubber gasket type thingy.

if not that then id just go with the other suggestions to plug up the holes well.

good luck
