Changing tranny fluid to redline...???

I'm going to be doing the tranny fluid change over to redline next week. I have a question though, they dont recommend you mixing for instance synthetic oil and regular oil as they dont mix....so is it ok to mix the redline tranny oil and whatever doesnt drain out of the system...since I will only be using the drain plug on the tranny?

I don't have a solid answer for you but that is what I ended up doing. Good luck with your drain bolt. I didn't win my battle with mine so I drained through the neutral position sensor. Here's my "how-to" (pics/text)

I just had mine changed to Redline. I asked the same question. Apparently, you don't flush manual trannies, so it's really your only option. I did it, and the Redline made a BIG difference. Cold shifting is much much better now.

I guess here is my thought on all this. Notice all the people blowing a gear...some are blaming it on ACT clutches...well...I've noticed they are also running redline tranny fluid and if its not mixing well I bet the gears arent getting proper lubrication.

What do you suppose prevents two different tranny oils from "mixing well" and being effective to lubricate the gears? I figure the gears are spinning so fast that the oil gets kicked up all over in the tranny case. And as long as the density of each of the two fluids is relatively similar, they wouldn't separate quickly.

Only my $0.02.

Because he has no idea. The dino/synthetic lubs are compatible.

Ok well I was personally confused since they recommend not mixing synthetic and regular oil. Thanks for clearing it up.

Text on the back of the Redline MT-90 container: "compatible with petroleums and synthetics".

As "they" say it certainly doesn't hurt anything. But the perfectionist would drain again and refill in a few thousand miles. I changed mine at 30k, 60k and around 85k.

Slightly OT--Who has been running Redline in their manual tranny for the longest period of time? How many miles?....just curious.

is anyone sure of how much fluid will come out if i just drain it from under pulling the drain plug?

Funny, the Haynes manual doesn't even estimate a quantity. They simply say the amount you should pour back should match what comes out.

I Had mine changed over to Redline synthetic at about 20000 miles. Two months later, time for a new tranny! I had the lube changed by a local performance shop. Maybe It's just coincidence, but I haven't used redline since.

Just my 2 cents.

It was actually replaced at about 32000. It's a 98 with a manual.

Was it under warranty still? I honestly don't think the Redline has anything to do with the tranny failure & it was just a coincidence in timing.

I changed my tranny fluid to Redline MT-90 in January, and I haven't noticed any difference in smoothness of shifts, no matter what the weather is like.
