If you have a custom intake that doesnt use the ram air, take it out because it just takes up extra space.....

leave it in if you have something like a frankencar cause it draws in a bit of cool air while your moving, my filter kinda sits in the bottom half of the airbox which is connected to the ram air thing, if you have a cai or something like that than its your call

out with the old!

…just my fifty cents... take out all the old snorkel, resonators and air box - what was Nissan thinking?. Install your new intake and filter of choice (I'm running a Frankencar with a K&N 4700). If you really want to get inventive you can use 1 1/4" (ID) clear vinyl tubing routed from the upper opening in the front valance bending into the engine compartment behind the headlight, under the small fuse box to blow in "cold air" just below the filter. **** Escalation II is to build a heat-shielding box that protects the aluminum intake and boxes in the cold/fresh air piped in from the tubing. Frankencars website has pictures of a beta heat shield but there's no info available on it.

With the shielding the intake stays cooler and the tubing delivers cooler outside air blowing directly onto the K&N Filter. Pictures I have - a website to host them on I don't. Lift up your hood while the fans are running and feel the amount of hot air they are dumping into the engine compartment... As always, Be Safe, Mark V. (oh yeh, time to modify my mods list...)

5,500 RPM, heads are turning, shift to third gear, WOT...

if u have CAI u have to take it out, cuz ur filter will be sittin between ur fenders, not in the engine bay.

It takes up so much room, just take it out. I don't see how it is supposed to work when the hood is completely closed and blocking its path to cool air.

No it gets it from the grill. If you lok at your hood, theres a "cut out" where the scoop sits.

Technicly if you dont have the air box, the ram air tube doesnt do jack. It would not be air tight, so really no air (or very little air) would be sucked in through it. Just trash it!

I left mine in because I have a HAI where the filter sits right behind the battery. So when I drive the puts air right under the filter. I can feel a difference if I take it out. More air is better. Just my .02.
