chrome wheels peeling

the previous owner of my 98 maxima se chromed the original stock (five-spoke) wheels. i think it looks great, but unfortunately they're peeling -- i have no idea where they were done. the chrome is flaking off and the wheel underneath is a horrible rough gray color (not like the original stock finish), so letting it all flake off is definitely out of the question. is there any way i can fix this by patching the holes or at least preventing them from spreading any further? or will i just have to get them completely re-chromed... and how much does that cost? thanks for any advice.

I've seen another thread where someone was paying 50$ each to get his wheels dipped in chrome, that price seemed pretty low though. I'm thinking it would be 100$ each or so. You would be better off finding a new set on ebay, or look in the for sale section of this forum, under wheels and tires.
