any past 3rd gen owners?

hello everyone. i currently own a 3rd gen max and i am thinking about getting a 4th gen in a couple months. i was just wondering if the 4th gens are as sturdy and reliable as the 3rd gens and how long most of them run. is it common for 4th gens to reach 200k miles like the 3rd gen? what are some common 4th gen problems? (such as the ticking in the 3rd gens)

I've had my 93 SE since it was brand new, and it's been holding up decently throughout the years, except for 3 window regulators, 2 trannies, intermitent stalling, and the infamous VTC's. My 93 currently has 115k on it, and the motor sounds as it ever has since brand new. I bought my 99SE with 32k on it a few months back, and I think it sounds and runs smoother than my 93 ever did...of course my 99 is a 5-spd. So far, no probs with the 99SE except for one of the 02 sensors. Besides the beige interior, I'm pretty happy with the 99, gotta love the bubble butt!

i agree, my 90 se had to have the injectors replaced and a new muffler and that was it after 117000mi. those cars were solid. look at it this way. back when our 3rd gens were new we would whoop up on most of the other cars that were the same age or newer, now you have to get a newer maxima to whoop up on all those cars you used to and also the newer ones out there.

good luck

Being that it's a different model, there's bound to be different problems. I had my '91 GXE from October '99 to December '02 (67K to 160K...yeah, I drive a lot) and had 2 window regulators, 1 or 2 fuel injectors plus the exhaust studs (didn't bother with those) and the timing belts and all the usual 3rd gen crap + regular maintenance. My '97 is tons faster but interior quality is a step or two down from my '91 (excessive noise from bumps as darrick noted) ...it's almost disappointing to an extent in base GXE trim. From what I've seen, the VQ seems to be at least as long lived as the VGs...Nissan seems to make reliable 6-cylinder engines (I still want an L28 1st gen 5-speed. ) Just hang out here (wish there was an equivalent to the 3rd gen board) to see what kind of things come up.
