Timing chain tensioner replacement. Service Buletin 27 july 2000, classification:EM96-008a, Reference:NTSB96-065a.
Simptomes in earlyer stages, when cold at start-up there is a small ratle in the timing chain area and it disapears when warm. Later simptoms are generaly ratles that are more persistent and comon.
It's a long weekend job and must good meticoulus mechanic and well equipped (including service manual).
Note that the new tensionners and guide are slightly different and you should not replace only the tensioner.

Sorry it's not a recall! My car has 147000km and the job is not expensive the guide and tensioner and other gaskets the way to the cover, around 100. But the job it's self is time consuming. When reasembling you must clean verry (removing the old sealent with a plastic scraper, not to scratch the surfaces)well the components if you want the liquid gasket to seal properly.
Sorry it's not a recal, even tough the new tensioner assembly is different. My Max has 147 000Km on it. The job is not expensive, maby 120.$ for the tensionner and othe seals and gaskets to be replaced on the way to the cover. But it's time consuming to clean touroughly everything for proper reassembly.
When the timing chain rattles it slaps against the guids thus wearing them prematuraly. It will become more persistent to constent and will cause crackes on the chain rolers and links and then the end.
Doing a engine oil flush to ensure the conduits are clean and flow well, use a OEM oil filter. If it still hapens check out the service bulletin.
