how good is the factory alarm?
Dont bother with an aftermarket alarm either, unless you get one that disables the car and/or stereo system........ Or you can get LoJack on your car...... All other alarms just make noise like the factory alarm. Nobody pays attention to alarms going off anyway. You alarm can be going off and people will just walk by like its nothing

The factory alarm sucks *****. Engage the alarm and rool your car down a hill until it blows up. Alarm still wont go off.
Do what thet do in Africa, but flame throwers under your doors so when someone tries to jack your ****.... *poof* bye bye theif.

That being said the stock alarm is ok for keeping your average a-hole out.
Get creative and add a kill switch to the fuel pump in a secret spot. You can always swap a key fuse too with a blown one when you leave(don't just pull it and leave the spot open). If you do both that'll **** any thief off and add at least 20 minutes to their time.
Aftermarket alarms do feature a shock/motion sensor which is nice. The stock doesn't. Alarms with an absolute DEAFENING siren are a must. Most aren't even all that loud. Some aftermarket alarms also feature a pager deal so you can at least try to deal with the situation yourself if the car is close, you can run fast, and you're packing heat.....

Like it was said in an earlier reply...... If a thief wants something in you car badly enough, he or she will get it. Not much can be done about it unless your car has a self destruct mode that goes off when the alarm is set off, or if you are there at the car with a sawed off shotgun.....
if you get a decent alarm then it helps... you can put sirens all over the place to make it hard... put on in the engine bay... a few piezo pain sirens in the cabin, under the dash, and a few in the trunk... make sure to hide them near where a theif would have to put his head to get something.... if you have heard one you know that you wouldnt want to have ur head near one for long....
that said.. get battery backup, sirens out the ***...
you might want to look into the Hornet 700T it adds shock sensor, LED, sirens etc to the stock alarm... i got it

Like TylerBorg said, some of those 108 db piezo sirens from RadioShack in the cabin will deter a lot of thieves! I hooked one up to my "door/headlight chime" to see what it would sound like. I forgot about it and the next morning started the car. The dang thing went off because my seatbelt wasn't fastened yet. My buddy un-as$ed the car real quick. I pulled the thing out immediately after it stopped going off. This was installed under the dash, so a few in other places would make it too unbearable to be in the car at all. They could even be installed in the pillars to look like tweeters. And a battery backup of some sort would be really cool.
If this is too much trouble, a Belgian Malumet(sp) K-9 would work just as good.
