Faint high pitch whine! Need help!

As I hit a steady 75+ I start to hear a high pitch noise. I have no freakin clue as to where it's coming from, as it sounds like its coming from all directions. In any case, once I hit 75+, the high pitch sound comes, and keeps getting louder as I go faster. However, if let go of the gas it stops IMMEDIATELY! Tried reving at a full stop to redline and no noise. I have no clue as to what this could be... anyone know?

Car in question: Maxima 99 SE-L

Well, I could hit 90mph and release the gas, and the noise goes away immediately, but i'm still traveling at 75+mph, just quickly slowing down. This isnt only at 90mph though, it could be at any random speed that's 75+. Noise is there, then release gas pedal and gone instantly.

More likely something to do with the drivetrain than the wheel bearings because it only happens under throttle. I'd vote for CV joints.

could be from your intake as well...

i know a few people get a little whine from the intake while on the throttle at a steady speed.

There is a Nissan Technical Service Bulletin written up on that issue. I can't recall if they actually do an adjustment on the car or simply explain what causes it.

Go to Google or Yahoo and do a search for "Nisaan Technical Service Bulletin" and you will get a whole laundry list of things on Nissans.

Thanks for the replies all. I just ordered ALLDATA DIY for my vehicle just to check up on the TSB by symptoms.

Do you by chance remember the area that was causing this problem?

Nope, no system in my car. My car is pretty much bone stock for now.

All help is still appreciated and welcomed! I could definitely use all the help I could get on this issue.

Hito, I have a 99 SE-L also. I've got the same faint whine and it seems like it's coming from the Speedo. Mine only becomes audible between 80-90mph. The sound is just too faint to be coming from anywhere else. BTW, I'm stock w/ only 45,000 mi. and a Bose "system".<----(If you want to call it that)

Never thought about the speedometer... I might bring my car to a shop and have them place it on a dyno roller. Then we could test out the speedo ranges...

If you figure anything out please post or PM me. I just started noticing it a week ago, and it's getting annoying knowing it's there.

i HIGHLY doubt the alternator, that is engine speed dependant, not vehicle speed
