The hoses that connection the power steering pipes in front of the radiator are leaking; each hose is about six inches long. I can replace those easily enough, but I'm worried about getting air into the system. How do I do this properly? Thanks in advance.

 

Replace the hoses, make sure there is fluid in the power steering reserve. Start the car and the pump will purge the air from the system. Turn the wheel lock to lock and check the level in the reserve again. You'll probably need to top it off at that time.

Are you saying that air is released from the power steering system via the PS pump without any extra work? No bleeding or anything required?

 

Ideally, the front wheels should be off the ground, but I think you can get away with them on the ground. WIth the engine running orf course, just turn the steering all the way left, wait a few seconds, then turn all the way right, wait a few seconds. Keep doing that until the groaning sound, like as if the power steering is being worked by Chewbacca of Star Wars, disappears.
