Automatic JWT ECU Owners, Please read.
I just installed my JWT ECU in my 97SE-A today. People were talking about the gains with the ECU and how its the best mod and should be done before anything else. I don't feel any gains. Maybe cuz I'm auto? The rev limiter has been raised. I confirmed that. =) So tell me what you guys think.

I've got VI, no choking here. Maybe I was expecting better throttle response. I expected more change during normal driving.

I noticed it the most when I put my stock ECU back in for a couple days. It felt like I was driving around with my foot on the brake. I'll agree with you, when I first installed it, I thought "That's it for $600!!" Guess I probably pumped it up in my head the whole time I was waiting on it.

BTW, I don't think throttle response changed too much for me neither.

The gains on my 5 speed were apparant right after the install, but it got better as the ECU learned over a few days. Don't forget that conditions like high humidity and such can also take away some of the fun.

BSwithTF: The "I got this 600 dollars!?" thought did cross my mind. Maybe I'll plug the stock ECU back in after a week or so. =)
Shoooter_j: I think you may be right. I was looking to get that 3000rpm surge the USDM manifold had. I thought the ECU would give that back to me. But the car doesn't feel any faster. =( Other than the 7000rpm redline, I don't notice the difference. Maybe my butt dyno is broken.
On another note: Still no CEL. I just ran a self diag and got a 0505. =) I've turned the car one and off about 10 times now and put about 15 miles on it with the new ECU.

Today is probably the most humid day we've had in NY since last summer. So that could be it also. I guess I'll have to wait till it cools off a bit and give it a few days to learn. Either way, 7000rpm is NICE. =)

I really don't think thats the case. They would tell you so if it were. And I'm sure we'd hear horror stories. =P I don't think the stock program even exists in the ECU anymore.

Doh, I really didn't pay attention to the production date of the 96 ECU I used. How do I find the production date of my car? I have the stock ECU here. Can I find out from that? Who knows, it may take time to throw the CEL. Maybe JWT did something. I see on the receipt that they did note that it was a 96ECU that was going in to a 97 car.

I'm not auto and I'm also not good at judging gains by feel but my JWT ECU was the only mod I could "feel" other than my Y pipe. If I had it to do over again I'd get Y pipe then ECU then worry about intake, exhaust, etc. My ECU made a tremendous difference.

I think maybe it's harder to judge the gains of the ECU because there is no sound to accompany the butt dyno. With the y-pipe I heard the sound and that reassured me that it was working. It's probably also the combination of being automatic and the humidity also.
5-speed conversion (or maybe 6-speed) is probably the next step. =) I think I'll feel that one.

Exactly right.

I've found it easier to judge if a mod is working by taking it back OFF the car. Drive your car with the JWT and then stop on the side of the road and plug in the stocker and I bet you will be able to tell the difference. That's how I convinced myself my MEVI was working. You'll notice when it's not there.

Someone told me a factor may be that I have a 97 and the gains are a lot less on a 97+ car. =(
