Resetting Milelage on Odometer....

I just installed a new engine in my 97 and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to reset the odometer?

That is illegal - I think maybe it's even a Federal Felony.

The odometer measures the milage on the car as a whole, not just on the engine.

All you should do is keep a receipt for the Engine and show it to whomever you sell it to and let them know the engine is new.

I would be wanting to kill someone that reset the odometer on a car I bought. New engine or not.

yeah... wrote down your current mileage to know when you installed the new engine... then keep a record of how many miles were on the new engine when installed. This way if ever you do sell it, the buyer will know what went on.

Personally I don't think this would bring down the value of a car? or would it? I would think it should. I mean hey, there a new engine in it now

Well, it doesn't raise or lower the value.

I had a 92 Camaro Z28 with a new engine with 1000 miles on it, and I showed the dealership the receipts and everything when I went to trade it in. (4 different dealerships as I was shopping for a car).

The car had 178k on it. The Engine 1k.

They wouldn't give me over $500 for it anyway....KBB trade in value was $2000, and it had some pretty major body damage and the interior was trashed from when my sister and her ghetto azz kids had it for 6 months.
