could it be that my auto tranny is dying on me??
What are the early signs of an auto tranny going bad?
I have 140k miles and 60k of those are highway miles. tranny fluid flushed regularly.
It used to be that my car would always shift into 4th real early(which is the normal tranny algorithm for our cars), therefore saving MPG but taking away any kind of throttle response. 30mph in auto 4th gear is for grannies. anyways, lately my car takes a lot longer than usual to upshift into 4th.. normally it would go into 4th around 2k, but now it stays til 3k to shift into 4th sometimes.. I took off all my bolt on mods and maybe the ECU is relearning the power curve/shift points and all that? I kind of drive more faster than before, maybe thats why its going into 4th so late.. I'm not sure if something is wrong or if its my head messing with me. I Need to know what the symptoms of a bad tranny is like.
When I first got my car, I drove pretty fast and I remember saying to myself at pretty aggressive throttle "Oh no.. please dont shift into 4th yet.. darn it did". but lately, my car seems to be doing just that. Shifting into 4th later than usual.. expert opinions needed !

Try resetting the idle AND the auto ECU (or whatever they call it!) as described in the factory manual. That will sync up the throttle setting (position)and your auto. I've found that if you mess with the idle speed setting and don't reset the auto ECU you end up with less than perfect shifting points. It's worth a try and FREE! Do this before messing with all the mods.
