pulled code 0608 - cylinder 1 misfire...now what?

ok i have been getting misfiring and stuff for awhile now...when going WOT or close to WOT...

i pulled the ecu code today, 0608 came out...misfiring for cylinder #1

now...which cylinder is #1 and what should i do to fix this?

i just had spark plugs changed to ngk coppers gapped at 0.042 like 3 months ago.

any help is appreciated.

Cyl #1 is Passenger side on the bank closest to the firewall

I'd check the plug to see if it's fouled, and the coil.

Did you also get a 02 01 code from the ecu. If you did, it's probably the coil gone bad on your car. 99's have a bad reputation for coils.

ok so looking at the engine bay from the front....its at the top left then right?

i didn't get any other codes...just 0608

does it mean that my ignition coil is failing?

If you are standing at the front bumper looking into the engine bay, cyl #1 is at the left side closest to the firewall

the cyl are numbered:

Firewall side

1 3 5

2 4 6

front Bumper

alright...i see

so i guess the possible problems would be spark plug or ignition coil?
anything else that would cause misfire?

What Daniel B Martin use to say for this problem:

Swap the ignition coil from cyl 1 with cyl 5, and swap the spark plug in cyl 1 with the plug in cyl 3, and drive around and see if your misfire moves to a different cylinder. Then you will know what the problem is.

it can only be either the spark plug or ignition coil right?
or are there any other factors that fit into the equation?

also, i noticed the coils have different shapes/lengths...would i be able to swap them like that and have them fit properly?

All the front bank ones are one type, all the rear bank ones are the other type.

95% its either the spark plug or coil (most likely the coil) and if it's neither, you'll still misfire on #1 That's what the test is for.

If your plug and coil pack check out OK, take a look at the injector. I had a misfire in #6 and the plug, coil- pack, and injector checked out fine.....

It could be your fuel injector also.

is there one injector per cylinder?

i've been using some amsoil fuel injector cleaner...it was somewhat better...but it came back on the next tank of gas (94 octane)
