What the deal yo!? I have a 1995 GLE with over 127k+ miles on it. I read the manual, it says the break function is fine, except for the ABS function. It tells me to go see a dealer(I dont want to get ripped-off by them). What can be the issue with this, and have anybody had similar problems?
What was the cost, can it be checked by other parties, etc.?
Thanks for any info ahead of time!

Each time you start your Maxima and drive off the ABS conducts a detailed
self-check. If it finds anything wrong the ABS computer stores a
Diagnostic Trouble Code and also lights the ABS dashboard warning light.

Self-diagnosis procedure.

1) Drive the vehicle over 20 mph for at least one minute.

2) Stop the vehicle and turn the ignition switch OFF.

3) Ground terminal 4 of the "Data Link Connector for CONSULT" with a
suitable jumper wire. This connector is found at the right hand edge of
the fuse block. The fuse block is located in the lower dashboard, behind a
pull-out panel near the driver's left knee. The Data Link Connector has
two vertical columns of contacts, with each row having seven contacts.
Terminals 1 - 7 are in the left hand column, with terminal 1 at the top.
Terminal 4 is the fourth from the top.

4) Turn the ignition switch ON with terminal 4 connected to ground. DO
NOT depress the brake pedal.

5) After 3.6 seconds the ABS warning lamp will flash out the stored
Diagnostic Trouble Code.

6) Turn the ignition switch OFF.

7) Disconnect the grounding wire from terminal 4.

8) Make repairs to the brake system as required.

ABS Diagnostic Trouble Codes are two-digit numbers. The readout consists
of a series of long flashes followed by a series of short flashes. The
long flashes have a duration of 0.6 seconds and indicate the first digit of
the DTC. The short flashes have a duration of 0.3 seconds and indicate the
second digit of the DTC. DTC 12 means "No problems detected".

After you follow this procedure and have a two-digit DTC, you may...
- Post the DTC and request a service manual table lookup.
- Visit your local friendly Nissan dealer and ask to look at their service
manual.
- Buy (or borrow from your local public library) a repair manual.
Chilton covers this topic on pages 9-17,18. Haynes covers this topic on
pages 9-3,4. In my opinion Haynes is the better of the two books.

It came on my car for a minute a few weeks ago,

I was peeling out trying to get up my driveway for like 5 minutes in the snow and then the ABS light came on.The same thing use to happen with my 95 max when peeling out up the driveway. One other time in my Max it was like 0 degrees out and it came on and when I started my car up like a hour later the light was gone.Did you do something strange for it triger the light? Try running the car until it heats up and shut the car off and then restart it then see if the light is still on,and if the check engine light is on clear it out and it might not come back on.
