question about intakes
hey there,
i'm seriosly considering buying an intake for my 96 maxima gxe(auto tranny). the thing is though, that i don't have much knowledge about the inner workings of cars (like under the hood and all that stuff). so my question is: is the intake easy to install for someone, like me, who doesn't have much knowledge under the hood of cars, or should i get the help of someone who knows what they're doing? also, should i just invest in just the pop charger, or go for the full intake, like a hybrid(frankencar comes to mind)? Or is it neccesary to totally replace the stock intake? any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,

I have had a lot of trouble driling the hole in my car for the Cold Air Intake i got off procarparts.com (i think its Bomz). You have to have the right tools or it will be a pain in the ***..
Still I would go for the full cold air intake, the work will be worth it.

The short ram or hot air intake is simple. All you need is a socket set and a phillips screw driver. Hot air intakes are better for high speed, cold air intakes, I heard are better for low end (some think).

The opposite is true for cold air..

thanks so far. i think what i'm mainly getting this for is the wonderful, deep sound and little performance boost(but mostly the sound...i love peeling away and revving the engine). any more suggestions and/or advice is greatly appreciated

installing intake is cake..its going to take hell of alot more time jsut to decide on cai or hybrid than to actaully install. screwdriver and about 30 mins is all you need for popcharge or hybrid.. i recommend hybrid. u lose a lil low end with a pop and auto..

installing is not cake. my dad and i have been working on installing a bomz CAI into my '95 GLE and it's taken several hours already. Drilling the hole sucks and no template or instructions were provided so we had to double check that we wouldn't drill into something. The air temp sensor didn't properly fit into the CAI hole (it was made for other year maximas) and my dad drilled holes into the pipe to get the sensor to fit. there were also fitment issues and all kinds of other problems. i wouldn't recommend doing a CAI that requires drilling on your own unless you're very good with tools or have very good blind luck.
