I had a problem to start my maxima.

everyday in the morning the first time, I start the car , I need to do it at least 4 times to start it.

but after the first time, it works fine, you just need to start one time.

I don't know what's wrong with my car, If you have same problem and have experiences about how to fix it.

please , let me know, thanx alot.

What year and mileage does you car have. Most 4th gens need a new starter around 60k miles. Mine did.

well

this does not seem like it's that uncommon. When you turn your keys, do you just go ahead and try and start the car? If so reason it's not starting is probably becasue there is still no fuel pressure. Try this tomorrow... crank the key all the way but don't start it... let it sit for about 15 seconds...then try it.

I had to replace my starter at 65,000 or so...

I don't think that's the issue here. It sounds like you're not getting gas. Try Shinges trick, I know he's had this problem.

When was the last time the fuel filters been changed? (guess, wizeguy shrugs)

It seems to help in my car, but why do I need to do this all of a sudden. It didn't happen before. I could just sit in the car crank it immedietly and it would start. Why does it happen now?

Please be more specific about your starting problem. Does your engine fail to crank (Rrr-Rrr-Rrr) or does it fail to fire (Vroom!)?

Sounds like you may have a fuel pump going out. Also, before you replace it, try all the gas filters. Replace em.

Tell us more about what it does. More details.

Good luck!

The thing is I just replaced the fuel filter, and at the same time it started to get cold outside. Now I don't know wheather it's the fuel filter, the weather or something else. But I noticed that it's starts after i let it pump a little before i crank it. I replaced the fuel filter with Puralator.

This may sound odd, but take off the gas cap, and start it up right away w/o leaving it on first. If it starts fine, look into the charcoal canaster reclaimation system. You could have a bad line to it from the tank or a bad charcoal canister. OTW, keep looking into the fuel pump. Put a temporary fuel pressure gauge on the system to see what the pressure is.

not sure that this is a good idea. On some of the ODBII cars, starting car without gas cap will cause the ECU to throw a code. I know that happens in ODBII Hondas...

All OBD-2 vehicles test for a fuel leak. Driving with the fuel filler cap off "looks" like a fuel leak to the Engine Control Module. However, this is a two-trip failure. You should be able to get away with it once, but if you do it twice in a row you are apt to get the Check Engine light.

I'm sure most if not all new cars throw a code when doing this. I think the '99 Ranger does it. That SHOULD clear off after starting the car next time. Anyone can 'forget' to put the cap back on, makes sense to me that the car computer can recover from that easily. Besides, if the computer is going to restrict troubleshooting so much, might as well just take it on in to the dealership, huh?
