Has anyone had any problems with the S-AFC? Such as the check engine light coming on or any fuel economy problems. I am going to have it installed soon, once I get it...

the only problem is: you need someone to tune it for you, that is $150 for NA, $350-500 for S/C or nitrous.

I'll have to get it tuned twice right? Once now, and once when i get a super charger? Will I have to tune it with every mod I put on?

What exactly does that thing do?

Does it add horsepower? I saw yours BrokenMotor but forgot to ask you more about it.

NA vs Force Inducted

basically wut is does is, it cheats the ECU, so you can correct the fuel curve(manually). tune it twice? no, you can just wait after you get the S/C. it is not worth $150 to tune it if you are NA, "cuz you probably only gain 2-5HP" quote from Kenny Tram at Jo-Tech Motorsports, but according to "UPRD ECU upgrade", the ECU upgrade gives 15HP mid range, and 5HP high End with timing adjusted from 5-8degree, but still i think NA Maxima should get more than just 2-5HP. maybe you can do it and tell us about it. heehee...... i know for sure that you don't gain as much power as if you are force-inducted and alittle bolt-on mod doesn't really effect the fuel curve.

thats good info BrokenMotor, your correct, but 1 thing i disagree with you on is your pricing on getting it tuned. Everywhere is different so throwing out $150 or $300 or whatever price is incorrect. Tuning NA vs Forced induction shouldnt be double the money or more either. need some dyno time and an experinced tuner and your set.

it alters the mass air flow sensor voltage. you can control it so that the computer "thinks" there is more or less air flowing in. If you want the car to run leaner, the AFC will alter the MAF voltage lower, thus, there is less fuel being injected. if you want it to run richer, the AFC alters the signal to be higher, resulting in more fuel.

for a slightly modded NA car, it's not worth very much. but for cars running boost or NOS, fine tuning of the fuel curve can yield 20-30 hp by optimizing the air/fuel mixture. If you run too rich (11:1), the ignition system can't fully ignite the mixture. If too lean (17:1), detonation & pre-ignition is likely. The best point to run is around 12:1 a/f mixture, which is where the optimal power is yielded w/ minimal risk.

The reason for this post was because I might purchase a used one. I would be getting it for 230 plus shipping. Is it worth it for me to have it installed now? Or should I wait until I get the S/C? If I ever plan on getting the UPRD ECU uprade, will that screw with the S-AFC?

Thanks....

Don't waste your money until you do the SC. there are better things to spend the money on rather than the AFC at this point.
