gapping a spark plug n engine noise???

two weeks ago i replaced my old spark plugs w/Bosch Platinum but not until yesterday did i found out that spark plugs need to be gapped. so i need to know...how to gap a spark plug n wat is the result of not gappin them???

also, yesterday nite when i was drivin home...i started to hear this noise comin from my engine...it sounds like a piece of metal is lose n is just rattling around(thats wat it sound like), to be more precise it literally sounds like a crappy civic aftermarket exhaust. could this be the result of not gappin my spark plugs???

i'm really lost...help!!!
btw, my car is bone stock.

I thought all platinum plugs came pre-gapped...I don't know about Bosch, I've never heard good things about them, but it's not a bad idea to check them anyways. How to gap a spark plug?

Goto the auto parts store where you bought your plugs, tell them you need a gapper, then ask them to show you. Mine is just a little circular piece of metal, you fit it in the gap of the plugs and turn it until it sticks, then you read off the gap...then adjust if needed.

I had Bosch Platinum +2 spark plugs and it said on the box that "Platinum spark plugs do not ever need to be gapped!" So.... I'd guess that would mean no gapping required. Never ran into a problem when using them either. However, I only had the plugs in for a little less than two weeks before my car was destroyed.

if they have more than one electrode then they do not need to be gapped. if its a bosch single electrode platnium then the gap should be checked. if you bought +2 or +4 then you dont have anything to worry about.

They are right

Platinum plugs are pre-gapped. I have heard that OEM plugs are the best to use anyway.

the box only say BOSCH PLATINUM "the ultimate spark plug" it doesn't say +2 or +4. my real concern is...can these plug be the main cause to the engine noise that i m experiencing???

check ebay for that price on the ngk plats. you could just get the nkg coppers, only difference is that you will have to replace them around every 20k. if you are comfortable with replacing the, i would just pick up the coppers at a local parts store for about a 1.50 each and pull the bosch and see if the noise remains.

I believe copper plugs spark better but last half the life time of platinum plugs. I dont think ngk's need to be gapped but check it out before you take my word.

.044"

Buy NGK Platinums, they work the best in our engines.

Bosch plugs Do not suck, some people have very good results with them, and I doubt you want me to prove it.

I always gap and index all of my plugs, I mean when your making power/tuning an engine, its nice to have everything the same.

general suspicion of commodities sold on ebay....
Did they look like the NGKs you pulled out of your engine originally to replace? With the part number on the plug? Sorry to be so doubtful, but you have to admit this is a relatively easy scam to pull...

i was told that they did not need to be gapped but i did as a safety precauation. they seemed to be a little off anyways. there is a great write up here with part numbers.

the reason i m goin w/copper is i don't want to wait for another 5 days buyin from ebay and have to wait till it get shipped to my door.the engine noise i've been experiencing is really botherin me, so now i'm off to an antozone to buy some NGK coppers to replace my bosch.
