Need help with strut replacement

I seem to have run into a bit of a problem while replacing my struts. I have the spring compressed and I tried to loosten the top nut that holds the mount and bushings to the spring. When I went to turn the nut, the top portion that is used to keep the strut from turning broke off in the cresent wrench that I was using. I need to somehow keep the strut from turning so I can remove the top nut. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cant see your pic but the only thing i can think of is to use some vise grips to grab onto the piston through the spring since your replacing it any ways. I had to do this before.

Put a long screwdriver between two of the studs on the strut mount. Hold the screwdriver/mount while you loosen the nut. Shouls break loose with no problem.

I loosen the nut while still mounted in the car. Makes it a little easier later on.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up taking a torch to it and it came right off. I ruined one of the bushings but that was no big deal.
