Harlan switch problems
Harlan switch problems
my harlan switch has been working fine for a while now, but then today i was pn the highway and got on the gas and blahhhh nothign activated at 5000 rpm like i had the switch set for usually id feel the extra kick from the VI but nothing so later on i opened the switch up and reset it to # of cylinder, and RPM (2k just for a test).... the switch accepted the setting and i started the car up and blah nothing at 2k ... but it did activate at 2500... i tested different rpms and all had a correction of 500rpm ..... so in order for my VI to activate at 5k i have to set the harlan switch to 5500rpm...
has this happened to anyone else ? if so any way i can fix it? will it get worse?

The OEM tach is off by a few hundred rpms to begin with, but 500 off is a little more than what I've seen on other cars. Is your Harlan in the engine bay? If so maybe the heat is affecting the values the harlan reads.

Seems to be a quality control issue. I have a light in my dash that goes on whenever the Harlan activates the MEVI, and it has never failed to activate when I hit 5000 rpm. I just ordered a second one to use as a shift light, I hope it's a good one.

For example, on my car when I hooked the Harlan up to the Rpm lead on the ECU my tach stopped working (went to 0 and stayed). The Harlan worked, but it caused issues on my car for some reason (which has an ECU closer to a 2000). I believe (and always suggest) that the best way to setup the Harlan is from the coil, and many haven't done that so maybe theres more fuel for the fire.

I'm beginning to think it's less of a defect problem and more of an issue with either a) user installation or b) different model years.

My 1st harlan worked like a champ, bought in may 2002. But it got water in it and died in feb 2003.
The current one I have is flaky. It works sometimes. And I am tapped into the coil.
HOWEVER, I am moving it inside the car today.
I think the heat issue might have some good merit as well as the parts that are on the rpm switch.
I think some of the parts maybe cheaper or older ( + 1 year )than others.
But there IS something to all of this.
I just can't seem to narrow it down to really anything.
sorry i havent got back to u guys .. but my harlan is in the "cockpit"
and i am using a relay on the switch... tomorrow im going ot install the LED to the switch so i can see when it activates....
i have my set up to the coil pack also i tried the ecu wire but i got the same results as Hype ..that baffeled me so i just ran it to the coil pack...
i really hope the switch doesnt blow or else i gotta wait another 3 weeks for a new one..
